Student Ministry
Student life can be great. Some appear to have it sorted. Others more or less muddle through. All have quite a few ups and downs along the way. But whatever your experience, we as a church want to get to know you and you us. And together we want to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Jesus.
Two particular sides of Immanuel might interest you as a student:
We are an old church...
and by that we don't mean we have a pipe organ, wear funny clothes and sit in pews (because we don't have any of those). What we mean is that we are very aware that we part of the ancient historic Christian faith that can be traced all the way back to Jesus and the teaching of the apostles in the New Testament. In that sense we are part of a 2000 year old movement...and that is pretty old...but at the same time as being an old church we are also...
...for new beginnings.
In a nutshell this is the reason that authentic Christianity has been around for 2000 years. When the words of Jesus are taught through the apostles writing in the New Testament people's lives are completely transformed. The Bible talks about it as though that person has been completely made new. They have a new start with God, with one another and with the future. And this is not a one off event. The Christian life is filled with new discoveries and challenges that shape us into the likeness of Jesus.
As an old church for new beginnings then we continually aim to take people back so that they can move forward with Jesus and his mission to the world...and student life affords some pretty unique opportunities to do just that.
Community
Belonging to Immanuel means seeing the difference that Jesus makes to all of life. We meet on Sundays at 11am and 6.45pm and also on Wednesday for small groups, and the aim of these meetings is to get to know Jesus better so that we can live all of life by what he says.
Training
The gospel is God's power to save us, but it is also God's power to shape us. We never grow out of the gospel and therefore we meet throughout the year at different times to examine the gospel and grow in our application of it to our lives.
MTS
We are committed to The Ministry Training Strategy in Immanuel. It is a strategy that intentionally confronts people (especially students) with the challenge to give themselves to full-time gospel work. You can talk to the current apprentices of their experience, straight out of college, of what preaching Christ actually feels like.
So we do hope to meet you soon at Immanuel. If you'd like us to look out for you when you arrive, click here to send us your details.
