Jesus

Jesus himself said the entire story of the Bible is all about him (Luke 24:27).  He also claimed that without a relationship with him we cannot truly live life or know God.  Those are pretty serious claims and force each of us to either make him the most important person in our lives or to reject him completely.  What he will not allow us to do is relegate him to the role of another run-of-the-mill religious teacher.

In an early 2nd century letter a man called Pliny, a non-Christian, wrote to Caesar explaining some of the things that set Christians apart, and one of the major distinctions was the fact that they worshipped Jesus as their God.  The Bible repeatedly bears testimony to this central fact of Christianity, that Jesus, a Jewish carpenter who lived most of his life in anonymity and was murdered along with criminals for offering people forgiveness was in fact God.  In the New Testament we read in the book of Hebrews 'In the past God spoke to our forefathers through the prophets at many times and in various ways, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom he made the universe.  The Son is the radiance of God's glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word.  After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty of heaven.'

The question as to who Jesus really is has always been one of the most controversial, debated and life-changing questions asked by man.  It remains so even today.  At Immanuel we stand in the historic Christian faith and seek to put Jesus at the centre of everything that we do.
